Thank god For Chowhound,
I swear I'd never find these holes in the walls otherwise !
saw a post for this place from 10/07 a few folks really liked it and i wouldn't be worth my screen name if i didn't try it
so when Redbones botched my take out order, I snuck on over to The Dragon, for a snack and was I in for a surprise...
This food is not authentic anything,- seems completely Americanized / Chinese,- the front of the house was a Surley, Condecending, funny, one man staff,
Me " I heard online you guys do some pretty good food here."
Him: (deadpan) Maybe sometimes.
and the kicker is... reasonably good food for what it's trying to do. Tried a couple of recs. from the tufts posters(above) and what should you expect from seseme chicken and egg drop soup?
Well I posted last week about how Peach Farm dropped their
deep frying ball and these dudes have picked it up.
Chx was crispy with a very good batter in a sweet (not too overdone or thickened), red sauce, lots of seseme, little skimpy on the veggies, but lots of crunchy sweet water chesnuts, all served very hot and very crispy,
Meat was both boneless breast and thigh -just a very good (im sorry hounds, I'm just omniverous) Gen Gau Chx plus the seeds and vegies.
Now, having just reviewed an ersatz Chinese dish like this (and liked it ! ) Ill be damed if im gonna attempt to review a bowl of egg drop soup. (wasn't bad either!)

Far and away the most salient aspect of this place is that
I'm now convied THIS is the worst decorated eating establishment in the state. Its a big empty forlorn room with a few tables clinging bravely to the sides, worn indoor outdoor carpet and a counter at the back for ordering take out (nobody POSTED this!) This place gives sleezy a bad (good?) name, frayed crappy snapshots of the lei river valley
& gt. wall contrast w/ paper wall calender indicating year of
--------? id guess, other guest was some homeless guy w/ large black plastic bag hanging out, and finally some pretty unbelievable prices, when was the last time you saw a lunch special of ma pau (their spelling) tofu with rice for $3.35?!?
Goes to show there is a place for all kinds of food if its done right. The Villian
