Dragon Dynasty - surreal!

Jean H. | Apr 14, 2002 04:58 PM

Went to Dragon Dynasty (in Scarborough) for dinner last night. Had trouble finding it at first, because it's hidden at the back of an anonymous plaza. The Cantonese food served there was very accomplished, but what struck me most was the service. I'm used to pretty perfunctory, brusque service at most Chinese restaurants, but Dragon Dynasty is the exact opposite: attentive to the point of surreal. When you're trying to put more food on your plate, they'll appear out of nowhere, literally grab the serving spoon from your hand, and dish out the food for you. When you're trying to ask a question about the menu to your server, two other staff will suddenly pop out of nowhere to listen in. I didn't know whether to be pleased or be annoyed.

Like I said, the food was uniformly excellent. The wine & beer list is laughable, though. I did see a person walking in with his own wine and handing it to the hostess...

Dragon Dynasty is definitely worth a try, both for the food and for the unusual service. (Things may be very different at dim sum, of course.)
