I hate to start up the perennial BBQ controversy on this board again, and I know everyone has their own opinion as to what is good que, but its really ubelievable to hear people praising Cecils and slamming the Dr.!
I lived in Sherman Oaks for many years and while we never were big on eating in at the Dr.s, we did take out all the time. However, about 5 ½ years ago we moved out to the (way) west valley and just havent been back over to the 'hood very often so it's been a while since we had their food.
It turned out our kids were busy during the day yesterday, and since I do not enjoy going out to eat on Mothers Day, we all agreed to bring in dinner. Since it was a lazy day and nothing mcuh going on, I suggested getting a feast from the Dr., to which all agreed.
I got there at 4:30pm and the place was packed with a good start on the wait list. (How could this be if its so bad?) Since I called in our order, it only took about 8 minutes to get our food, pay, and leave. What a zoo it was!!!
We had the following items: Beef ribs, Pork ribs, Brisket, Chiken with beans and cole slaw. I am now certain that the detractors of this place are crazy and my memory was perfect! The beef ribs were large, meaty, not fatty, tender and delicious. The Pork ribs were big and meaty also, I just preferred the Beef ribs more.
The Brisket was like the beef ribs, tender (no knife needed) and not fatty at all. Yummmm! I dont know where they get their chickens from, but they must be on growth hormones, HUGE!! Again, tender, tasty and delicious! The cole slaw and beans were also very yummy.
It will not be so long before we go back, I forgot just how good their food was.
I dont know what people expect from a BBQ place, but in my humble opinion, even though the Dr. may have been sold a few years ago, whoever bought it is doing something right! Plus ALL those people eating, picking up go orders and in line must think so too!!
Let the controversey begin again!
