DPD Restaurant, San Francisco

It's been a few years since I've tried DPD (901 Kearny St. @ Jackson, SF, 415.982.0471). Tonight it was still open at 10:25pm with a parking space right in front, so I grabbed the opportunity to coast in for a take-out order.

None of the three staff (including the chef) still around spoke any English, but they let me know that one of their waitresses does for the next time I come back. Not strictly Shanghainese anymore, the menu has broadened to include the usual generic Chinese suspects but still has a section of Shanghai specialties plus a new set of Shan Dung (Shandong) dumplings and noodle dishes.

I had the "Shanghai Special Noodles", $4.25, which were thick chewy noodles glazed bronze with wok flavor and tossed with a few shreds of pork and fresh spinach. Toothsome and satisfying for a late night dinner while watching the news.

Hours are M-Th 11am - 10:30pm, F-Sa Noon to Midnight, and closed Sunday.
