Downtown Phoenix Lunch-Ruby Beet

Really needing to get out of the office and sick of the usual lunch places in downtown Phoenix, I wandered over to Ruby Beet Gourmet for lunch last week. It's located in Heritage Square, corner of 7th Street and Washington, in the Silvas House (right across from Pizzeria Bianco).

They have a small menu of sandwiches and salads and a very tempting pastry case (I think their pastry chef used to be the pastry chef at Roxsand). I had a mozzarella and tomato sandwich that was just right, and quite pretty with red, yellow and green tomatoes-the green tomatoes added a nice tartness. The sandwich came with a side salad, baby greens with roasted beets, and housemade sweet potato chips, which were fabulous.

They have both indoor and outdoor seating and are open for lunch Tuesday-Saturday. They also do breakfast on Saturday. It's BYOB, with a $10 corkage fee. In the evenings they do private parties and offer cooking classes.

Check this place out!
