Downtown - Lazy Ox; Good. Water Grill; Good. Spice Table; Wow.

Now that one of the fam lives downtown, we have an incentive to pick places there when we get together. Recently, a first visit to the Lazy Ox Canteen, where we basically let the waiter guide us through several small plates. In all, a very nice time with interesting food. We'd go back. Another time, we shared the King, iced shellfish platter at Water Grill. When we saw that on the menu, forget the DineLA specials, a chorus of 'maayyybe we should get this instead'... Worth it. We'd go back. More recently, a Saturday dinner for five at Spice Table, at a center table of the main room. A very in-charge, fun waitress with helpful advice. Got a couple of votes as 'best thin I ate in LA in years'. This time, we kept a record:
- Curry fried chicken wings - an early favorite
- Grilled bone marrow - merry Christmas AND happy new year, on toast
- Lamb belly satay - one of the best of the evening
- Duck heart satay - only one I'd change. so spicy the delivery vehicle could have been anything
- Grilled brussels sprouts - because you need your veggies. and bacon.
- Fried cauliflower - halfway through the evening, this was tied as best
- Oxtail stew - as good as you would expect; maybe more
- Kon loh mee - tied as one of the best-liked dishes
- Pigs tail - a special, and it was
- Duck congee - just nice
- Some nice craft beer and ale
- Desserts - Kaffir lime custard and Nai-cha soft ice cream - get both if you can, they were a good pairing
