The old Loop cafeterias are disappearing. They are being taken over by fast food businesses. If a cafeteria exists it is usually owned by Marriott or Aramark corp. When I worked in the Loop I sometimes use to go to 135 S. Lasalle Building to the Vault which has a big variety to choose from. Or I would go to the 1st National Bank Building on the 2nd Floor which had a nice view and good food. Does anyone remember the cafeteria on Lasalle and Van Buren that got wrecked that had huge Fish sandwiches on Fridays? It is to bad that these cafeterias are disappearing and being taken over by corporate giants.
Do any old timers remember the old time cafeterias? I understand some of them had walls with workers behind them cooking and they had sliding windows you opened to take your food tray. Every window had different selections. Does anyone remember any old good Loop cafeterias that are gone? Or are still going strong?
