Ate at Cendrillon last night for the first time in months. This is one of the few reliably excellent options anywhere near our office (Broadway and Houston), and we've eaten there dozens of times over the past five years.
Something was different. The goat roti lacked its usual pungency. The pancakes were flabby. And the chicken adobo, served on a new kind of plate, was almost vinegar-less and slightly soggy. Nils ordered a squash soup that was actually bland -- and we've never had an appetizer that was less than yummy at this restaurant. Our dining partners -- definite eaters from out of town -- spared us the usual cries of delight we hear when we take newbies there.
You know how it is -- could be the chef's day off, someone screwed up a dish, etc. But the new plate on the adobo suggested to me that perhaps there's been a change in the kitchen.
I hope not and I'll certainly give it another chance. But I wanted to put out a warning here, since I've championed this restaurant several times on these boards.
