Doug’s Sweet Potato Pie

Melanie Wong | Sep 22, 200102:13 AM

Last Saturday found me in Temescal around lunchtime, so I scooted over to Doug’s bbq for a first time visit. Neither the pork ribs nor the medium sauce (which was milder than expected) will cause me to desert Flint’s or E&J.

But I did like the sweet potato pie an awful lot. This was the mini-size for 75¢, about 2 1/2” across. What was so interesting was the texture. Not the heavy pumpkin pie-like custardy filling that I’m accustomed to, instead almost fluffy and much lighter in body. The seasonings were subtle rather than assertive with a light hand with the sugar. The cookie crust was crackly crisp.

Good stuff.
