Last Saturday found me in Temescal around lunchtime, so I scooted over to Dougs bbq for a first time visit. Neither the pork ribs nor the medium sauce (which was milder than expected) will cause me to desert Flints or E&J.
But I did like the sweet potato pie an awful lot. This was the mini-size for 75¢, about 2 1/2 across. What was so interesting was the texture. Not the heavy pumpkin pie-like custardy filling that Im accustomed to, instead almost fluffy and much lighter in body. The seasonings were subtle rather than assertive with a light hand with the sugar. The cookie crust was crackly crisp.
