Friend and I decided to try some place new, and thus Doug Arango became the venue of choice.
The former Yujean Kang is now tarted out in red and white with an auditorium or ballroom scale. If not seating along one of the walls, you might as well be in the middle of Melrose Avenue.
Then the food - I believe SIV gave this place a 2* rating - me, no rating is more appropriate. Not that anything was BAD, but why.
Appetizer of lobster, brie quesadilla tasted of brie and lobster, and that was the good news.
Companion's fig/prosciutto app first arrived as the fried oyster/spinach concoction, and once that was traded out for the real thing, the difference really did not matter. Neither like oysters, yet even figs and pork did not cut it. Was just there!
Companion's entree of rack of lamb (@ $34 would you believe) ordered med/rare, came med, and in my mind beyond, yet had almost no taste.
My Niman Ranch pork chop @ $26 was similarly nearly tasteless.
Wine list - corkage of $8 per person per bottle fee!!!!!!!!!!!!! If 3 want to split a bottle brought in, the cork is $24. Multiply that times 2 and you can waste serious bucks.
The list itself, 10% below $50 a bottle, the balance closer on average to $150, with highs and lows major in number on both sides of the ledger. Nice burgs list, if you have the bucks and desire to spend them.
Two apps, two entrees, and a $52 Gigondas brought a $172 tab plus tip.
At these prices, you have MANY options everywhere.
We surely will not be returning any time soon.
