Doug Arangno's: Margaritas, Beer, Pizza and Burgers -- how high-brow can you get?

I can't understand why this place isn't more crowded. The food, IMHO, keeps getting better and better. It is right next door to my gym so I am often feeling virtuous (for having worked out) as well as hypoglycemic, and frantically wondering where to eat...and FAST. I ate there once (perhaps unfairly close to their opening) and found it just OK and seemingly overpriced for the quality.

Last night I sat down at nearby Morton's with a few friends (their choice, not mine), ordered drinks, took one look at the horribly over-priced and pretty boring menu, bolted the drinks and hopped over to Doug's. My two friends -- who (like me) where rather unimpressed with DA's when it first opened -- and I were blown away by the soul and creativity of the food. First off the waitress bragged that she grew up making fresh margaritas…she did, they were! Next, we split a pizza with homemade sausage to start...razor-thin deliciousness.

For main course I had fab lamb chops; one friend had ribs and the other a pork chop. All were excellent. They make almost everything by hand (bread, sausage, ketchup, pizza, margaritas).
Monday Burger night is awesome, especially the duck burger. The Belgian beer selection is one of the best in the city.
For a place some people think of as high-brow, the whimsicality of beer, pizza, ribs, burgers, fried chicken and margaritas is quite funny and very refreshing. I’ll be back.
