DOTM June 2018: Nominations

MelMM | May 20, 201810:50 AM

It is time yet again to look forward to the next month, and decide what we would like to cook as a group. Here in the south, June is summer. Tomatoes, peaches, sweet corn, and more zucchini than any of us can handle (that's already happening!). For some of you, the tomatoes are still a long ways off, and spring vegetables are the order of the day. Either way, we are all starting to get in the summer frame of mind.

For May, we have a thread in progress on Thai curries and pastes. If you are new to DOTM, check it out so you can see how it works (and please join in!).

To nominate for June, please type your nomination in the comments below in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Only nominations in all caps will be counted. You may nominate as many dishes as you like. As usual, push your own envelope, think of something you’ve always wanted to learn how to cook, something that will help you master a new technique, get acquainted with a new ingredient, or learn about a new cuisine. Please take note of the guidelines below on what constitutes a "dish" for the purpose of DOTM.

Nominations will be close on Friday, May 25, at 9am EDT. After nominations close, we'll move on to voting. In the voting round, everyone only gets one vote, for one dish.

**What Makes a Dish**

A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.

**Prior DOTM Dishes**

DOTM has been going strong for over five years now, and we have covered many different dishes! You can view the index of dishes here, and you are invited to make any of these dishes, and contribute to these threads at any time.
