Welcome to the nomination thread for July 2018 DOTM! Tomorrow we will celebrate the summer equinox and that means that our days will start to shrink once again. But before a noticeable change happens we get to enjoy many more long summer days, at least here in the Northern Hemisphere. So, what are we going to cook in July? Perhaps something to nibble on along the shrubs that some of us are making? Or something summery, spicy and cold? Or hot and sticky plucked off the grill? So many choices! I am excited to see your nominations and will surely make some notes for future menu planning.
If you are just finding the Dish of the Month, please join us and take a look at the current reporting thread here: https://www.chowhound.com/post/june-2...
Please read the starred guidelines below about what makes a dish, and what dishes we’ve already done, and type your nomination in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. You may nominate as many dishes as you like. As usual, push your own envelopes, think of something you’ve always wanted to learn how to cook, something that will help you master a new technique, get acquainted with a new ingredient, or learn about a new cuisine.
Nominations will close on June 26th at 8pm EDT when we'll move on to the voting. In the voting round, everyone only gets one vote, for one dish.
**What Makes a Dish**
A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.
**Prior DOTM Dishes**
DOTM has been going strong for over four years now, and we have covered many different dishes! You can view the index of dishes here, and you are invited to make any of these dishes, and contribute to these threads at any time.
