How to make doraji?

I failed at my first attempt making doraji (bellflower root). I purchased dried doraji and soaked it for about two hours. I cut it in strips and did a water saute, adding minced garlic, salt and chopped scallions. The doraji had a very chalky, chemical-like taste. Did I not soak it long enough? Hannaone -- can you help me out on this one?
