Dopo Teatro, Nem, Crestanello

(Sorry about the duplicate post on this one!)

Went to all three today. Struck out on all counts. The grilled pork sandwich at Nem (Grand Cetral Station)was dry, and overly sweet. They were SO stingy with the fillings too. Requests for hot peppers brought generic chinese hot sauce packets. I asked for peanuts in the sandwich and they said those were only for salads, huh? They're right on display, pick them up and throw them in. I'll pay the extra.

Trattoria dopo Teatro was a WOR event or else I probably
wouldn't end up in a Theater District mid-level Italian
if I could help it. Carpaccio of Tuna was drowning in flavorless truffle oil. Rigatoni Pugliese allegedly had baby octopus, swordfish, and peanuts(that's what grabbed me as I've never seen this in a pasta dish). No peanuts to be found though and one piece of swordfish was the size of a pencil eraser. The overall flavor of the dish was nice though. A main course of Zuppa di Pesce was kind of off, and very greasy. I question the freshness. They pulled some tricks with the allegedly pricefixed bill, charging for involuntary stale coffee thrust upon
us.

Crestanello Cafe which I read about here was a bit of a letdown. Seemed like a good idea run by incompetents who had no idea what was on their own menu. I always think that food service concepts that are imported need to import a good staff to make it work. Caffe Cereale was pretty good but I think that was just a mix so they couldn't screw it up. Coffee, both iced and regular, were almost undrinkable.

Oh well, tommorow I shall hopefully live to eat again.

Frank
