Wednesday evening I was a guest at a reception at the "Next Door" event space operated by Mulvaney's Building & Loan in Sacramento. I liked the feel and flow of the venue very much so wanted to mention it here for anyone looking for a special event set-up.
There's a bar in the corner near the entrance for beverage service. Seating was at round four-tops and some taller bar tables and chairs. The buffet table was replenished often. My favorite bites were the catfish fillets with lemon aioli, housesmoked salmon on a potato crisp, and the spicy noodle salad served in a take-out container. A dessert table along the side wall had self-service coffee and tea. The Meyer lemon tartlet was fab.
Chef/owner Patrick Mulvaney has been at the forefront of building the farm-to-fork movement in Sacramento. He had a few words for us a week after a hotly contested presidential election, including, "In California, we are not red or blue. We're Agriculture. We are GREEN."
