Dona Rosa, Pasadena—Review

Went to Dona Rosa looking for fluffy made-on-the-spot flour tortillas (based on suggestions from chowhounders), but found none. I was told that the lady who makes the flour tortillas left because she is pregnant. Darn! Had lunch there anyway, and the food was quite good. I had the cheese enchiladas, with extra onion (my favorite) and it was great! Reminded me of the enchiladas back home in Texas. My colleague had the chicken mole enchiladas, which he loved. "It's easy to go wrong with mole," he said. "They got it right." I must say, though, that the best part was my dessert to go. I bought a guava cream cheese empanada. I was going to wait until I got home to eat it, but decided to take a bite while driving back to the office. It was amazing! So delicious, full of guava flavor wrapped in flaky buttery pastry (more of a turnover than an empanada). I ate the whole thing in the car, complete with crumbs all over my shirt and lap. Seriously, it was the second-best thing I put in my mouth in a long time!
