Domaine d'Eugénie, reincarnation of Domaine René Engel

Interesting input from semi-public sources:

"Domaine René Engel was sold to the owners of Château Latour, in Bordeaux. They renamed it Domaine Eugenie, and did a great job of hiring a Burgundian Winemaker (Michel Mallard) and continuing the terrific quality and distinctive vineyard character of the wines. Unfortunately, they paid a very high price for the domaine (rumored to be over $22 Million!). Accordingly, they priced their wines quite high. In fact, I thought their initial pricing was crazy, in spite of how much I liked the wines. Well, the market felt the same way, and after some time has passed [ the wines are in the market ] with discounts of 35-50% off the original retail. "

Real estate bubble, anybody?
