my girlfriend and i used to love to go to a little tea house just south of union square called "the adore." it is a bit of a cultural melange -- country french decor, french food, english teas, and japanese management. the other day, my girlfriend ordered a scone, and asked for some jam with it. the server said "no, it's not possible," (even though i got jam with my bagutte). my girlfriend appealed to the manager, who replied that it was not "right" to eat jam with scones. my girlfriend replied that she really wanted jam with her scone, even if it was not "right." the manager said that the manager did not want anyone eating jam with scones in his establishment, and in fact, did not want the type of people who would eat jam with scones frequenting his establishment. while i appreciate that there are "authentic" ways to serve food, i feel like this was a bit overboard. what do you think?
