djerdan...

astoriaboy | Mar 8, 2003 04:28 AM

just got up in the middle of the night...not much of a chance that i'll be falling asleep anytime, soon...so, i thought it would be a good opportunity to post about a recent food experience or two :) ...

firstly, i would like to give thanks and praise to steve a and the big dog for enlightening me with repect to djerdan and their "special slices"...it is definitely the kind of place that i regret not having known about sooner...i don't kick myself too hard, since it's kind of hidden away on 31st ave...it's easy to drive past it even if you know the address (34-04 31st ave)...but, it is worth it to find it...

i've been there twice, so far...had the spinach, cheese and special slices (bureks)...$3.50, $3.50 and $4.00, respectively...really a bargain...if anybody can tell me of a greek place that serves a spanakopita or tiropita that is better than djerdan's cheese and spinach bureks, please tell me...otherwise, djerdan is where i'm going when i'm in the mood for that of sort of treat...and the special slices?...i can't recall ever having anything quite like them...fresh and delicate pastry stuffed with seasoned beef and topped with sour cream...they look exactly like big cinnamon buns with frosting...i almost expected it to be sweet...it was not...but it was definitely good...

and being that everything was so cheap, i took a stab at a couple of desserts...the apple strudel was also fresh and very nicely done...and i had a dessert that i didn't get the name of, but was very good, as well...it consisted of layers of wafers with a dulce de leche type filling...i was glad not to have skipped them, and it seems that nothing on the dessert menu is priced over $2...so, what the heck...i'm definitely going back for more...

ok...i'm not tired, yet...i guess i'll start a post on my kabab cafe! experience, now...see you there...
