Dizzy's Surprise - A really good night

Brad-Eats | Dec 30, 2001 07:30 PM

I have not been to Dizzy's for a few months, even though I walk by it every day, and I went in with a friend on a lark (it was cold).

And guess what? We had a great meal.

We had a curried mussell (sp?) dish to share as appetizer, and then I had a big piece of meatloaf with gravy and mashed potatoes, and my friend had the fish special of the night. It was a skate with a tomato/red onion salsa, and sauted sweet potatoes. All of it was finger licking good. (The bread they serve is a whole grain bread - I think from Lopez Bakery on 5th & 8th (great place). It was really good in the broth)

I have been there for breakfast a bunch, and except for the higher than any other diner in park slope prices I will go back. It definately serves up the best breakfast fare on a day in day out basis. (I usually end up there after a long night of writing - 10:00 am on a tuesday for instance).

Anyway, I had a great dinner, the music jazz but some I had not heard of. Not the usually gypsy kings or Miles' Kind of Blue which I am tired of hearing. It was a jazz trumpeter named clark terry (which I had not heard before). They have put down white table cloths (I think in an attempt to be a bit more digestable as an evening place), and candles etc, and we just had a very nice evening. Service was prompt and on time. (The table was wobbly unfortunately, but they got a sliver of wine cork eventually, and fixed it)

I am writing because I have read many conflicting things about Dizzys over the years, some real good, and some real bad, so I figured I'd pitch in my two cents. (I have had both really bad service and really good service there)

At least last night, they got everything right.

Oh, one more thing, they had a great sake margarita.

I look forward to hearing other's comments on Dizzy's.
