Divino for Saturday lunch

Divino in Brentwood has long been a favorite so when a friend suggested that three of us meet there today for lunch it was the perfect choice. I live in the area, another works in the area and the third used to work in the area so we all had familiarity with the restaurant and were all delighted with the results.

The meal began with their house foccacia fresh from the oven and proceeded with a strapezzata, a perfect bruschetta topped with lightly scrambled eggs with fresh herbs, that could easily be the beginning of any day for me. We followed with a very nice prosciutto and burrata plate with roasted peppers and an unusually fine light tomato risotto with a pesto coated John Dory that was one of the best dishes I've had in a while. We finished with a slightly warm torta della nonna that was as good as any I've ever had and the perfect end to a great meal. Bottled water and a latte brought the tab, I would imagine, to about $50 with tax and tip. Service could not have been more attentive with Goran one of the city's great hosts.

On my way there I noticed the new arrival of Enzo and Angela to the ever growing Italian population of Brentwood, but Divino continues to lead the pack in my book. Like many here, we checked in on the progress of City Bakery afterwards where Christopher the catering director announced that we should count on having lunch with them next Saturday. We won't hold him to it, especially knowing the option up the road.
