Just finished a prix fixe Valentine's Day menu at this very, very new Vietnamese spot on W. 3rd. We were there early, before it heated up, and were very pleasantly surprised.
Usually, V-Day is a no-fly zone for us, but if it falls on Sat and in paying the babysitter anyway...go for it. We booked it at 430 this afternoon after a spin through OpenTable/Eater revealed plenty of availability tonight.
The room was great - we actually sat outside, side by side romance style, on an upholstered booth with a nice view of he room, unseasonably great weather and lots of fire features setting the mood.
Cocktails - the hot Asian, was very, very tasty. Guava Rita also good.
Small stuff - caviar on rice cracker with something foam. Good start.
Bone marrow with broth and crisps - very good.
Various Vietnamese canapés - very good.
Kale salad w beets - nice looking kale. And pomegranate seeds.
Mains....a curry-tinged, lightly fried Maine lobster with uni noodles....wow, this was delicious and I would go back just for it!
Grass-fed Ribeye with fresh corn risotto. Great crust and flavor, perfectly prepared.
A couple of good desserts - choc mousse, and a roasted banana ice cream creamy tapioca thing that was the winner for us.
I can't believe this spot is only a week old, and I recommend it. Only drawbacks were a few early-stage service jitters (which table is this entree going to, what should we do with the extra silverware on that table, are these plates supposed to be picked up...by whom?). But those were balanced by great front of house staff with welcoming personalities, and very earnest, want-to-help-out wait staff.
