Hello fellow Chowhounds,
After reading all the acclaims about Delfina, my wife and I, along with my best friend and his wife just returned from dinner there at a 5:30pm reservation. We started with the tomato soup, and this is where the first of many problems began. The soup was overly sweet and luke warm.
Our entrees were the chicken, which was very flavorful and a nicely portioned . This was the best of the entrees. The Niman Ranch "flat iron steak" was a very small portion of tasty, slightly over salted strips of beef with some greasy french fries. The portion of meat was really miniscule compared to that of the chicken and the salmon entrees. The menu stated steak; instead, I received a very few slices of meat. We also ordered a bottle of what turned out to be more of a sparkling fruit juice or a dessert wine, and the waitress, instead of warning us, assured us we would like it and it would be fine with our meals. It wasn't. After our main course, we ordered the chocolate cake, and that's when different waitresses started clearing the table of everything, including the salt and pepper shakers! One kept asking for our help in handing plates, glasses, silverware to her. It was as if she was making sure that we understood that the meal was drawing to a close. We were left with nothing on the table but our water glasses. After finishing the cake, we were immediately brought the check, and I'm not kidding, in the following 30 seconds, three different waitresses came up to our table asking if we needed change. We had not even had time to look at the bill, let alone pay for the meal. Our total for the four of us was over $200.00, and I realize that you could spend more and maybe receive better service, but I don't know why anyone would. My wife and I have had better meals on the Peninsula at about half of the cost.
