It’s nomination time here at Dish of the Month. What dish sounds especially exciting to cook together this month? Most of us are still stuck in winter, although spring will likely start peeking out at us sometime mid-March. Do we want to stick with warming comfort food, or start tiptoeing into spring produce? We’re probably all a little sick of the day in, day out cooking schedule we’ve been stuck with during these Covid-19 times, so let’s try to find something that helps us get some of the excitement back into the kitchen.
If you are new to Dish of the Month, here is how it works: You can nominate as many dishes as you’d like. Just be sure to put your nominations in ALL CAPS. There will be a nomination period (ending at 9:00 am on Saturday 2/27), and then I’ll let you know that the voting thread has been put up, and we’ll vote on the top nominees. On the last day of the month at closing time, we’ll have a winner!
We sometimes have confusion over what makes a dish. A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.
Finally, here is a list of past DOTMs: https://www.chowhound.com/post/links-... We love having people add to these threads, so if something you’d like to make has already been a Dish of the Month, I encourage you to add to the previous thread.
Again, nominations will close at 9:00 a.m. eastern time on Saturday, Feb. 27th. The voting thread will go up soon after.
