Dish of the Month – NOMINATIONS, January 2020

RainyRamone | Dec 20, 201908:37 PM     59

Once again, it’s nomination time here at Dish of the Month! What better time than the start of the new year - indeed, a new decade – to push your own culinary envelope: think of a dish you’ve always wanted to perfect or learn how to cook, a dish that will help you master a new technique, or perhaps something that will inspire you to get acquainted with a new ingredient, or learn about a new cuisine. As we usher in 2020, help us ring in the New Year in splendid DOTM style!

**What Makes a Dish**

A dish is loosely defined as an ingredient and a method of preparation. So while chocolate is not a dish, chocolate mousse is a dish. It doesn’t have to be terribly specific, you don’t have to say “tomatoes chopped and simmered over low heat then puréed and poured into a bowl,” you can just nominate “tomato soup.” For some dishes, both the ingredients and the technique are implied, such as cassoulet or jambalaya.

** Please Don’t Nominate Dishes that already have been Prior DOTM Dishes**
The Home Cooking DOTM series has been active since August 2012. Over that period, we’ve already cooked 85 different dishes, as listed on this index;

We want to avoid selecting a dish for January that is a repeat of a dish featured before, so please review the index before nominating a dish. You are invited to make any of the prior DOTMs and contribute to the existing threads for them at any time.

**How to Nominate or Second a Dish**
When you are ready to nominate a dish, or to second another’s nomination, please type the dish in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. Nominations are counted by how many times they are written in capitals, so if you’re discussing a dish without nominating, or after nominating, please type it in lower case. Each Hound may nominate as many dishes as he/she likes during the Nomination phase of our selection process.

If you are just discovering Dish of the Month, a warm welcome to you! Please join us, and take a look at the current reporting thread here:

Nominations will be open until Wednesday, December 25, at 6pm PST / 9pm EST / 2am GMT. Due to the relatively short turn-around time, you are encouraged to get your nominations in early! After nominations close, we'll move on to voting. In the voting round, everyone only gets one vote, for one dish.
