discrimination at Tamarind on 22nd

Just dined at Tamarind tonight after making reservations for 6 adults plus a baby. Though the food is definitely good, I would not recommend it as "a must" in food haven nyc.
What upsets me most about the restaurant, however, food aside, is the attitude of the hostess and one of the owners. As we were leaving, the hostess pulled my husband aside and said that no kids under 5 are allowed in the restaurant. First of all, our baby did not cry/wail or make any noise even once. And if he did, I would have politely taken him outside to calm him down. Second of all, why make such a fuss after we paid the bill, of which a 20% tip was already tacked on to the bill??!!
After speaking to the owner, who rudely said this was a "potentially" new rule that they were THINKING of implementing, I told him that if no kids were allowed, he should have told us that from the start and we would have taken our business elsewhere. The point is, we had a perfectly nice evening, until the unnecessary and abrupt comment was made about our baby, who didnt even make a fuss. To boot, the restaurant was filled w/ babies and kids!
One gal from our party told the owner that he was discriminating against babies because there is no current policy regarding youngsters and the fact that they took our reservation knowing we had a baby. His reply: "Listen lady, we hire blacks, gays and we do not discriminate." He obviously had no respect for women either as he raised his voice so loud that all customers seated in the front turned around and became an instant audience.
To make a long story short, I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody because a) the food is average and b) they are extremely discourteous and rude. Why take our money (we were a quiet and polite table compared to several parties of noisy ADULTS!) and then pass on such rude "instructions" upon leaving?! We are beyond appalled.
