What Discontinued Products Do You Miss?

I grew up in a veggie household, and one of my favorite things was a canned sandwich spread type thing called Nuteena made by either Loma Linda or Morningstar Farms. I loved it sliced, on bread with mustard. it's long gone, but I still miss it. One of those companies (at least I think it was one of those) used to also make these breakfast bars that were sort of cake line, with a glaze over the top. They were wrapped in a foil like wrapper, two bars to a package and came in either chocolate, vanilla or strawberry. Does anyone remember those? They were so good.

I also miss a Pepperidge Farm cookie- chocolate sandwich cookie with walnuts in the cookie and a cream filling. I haven't seen them in years... those were my favorites.

Pizza Puffs. Cheeto-style rectangular moon-shaped puffs, suppose to taste like a freeze-dried pizza. I loved them and ate them by the bagfuls in the 70s. Got nostaltic about year ago, went on-line to see if they are still around but can't seem to find any reference to this item.

Does anybody remember a product called 'Great Shakes'? It was a vanilla, chocolate and maybe strawberry flavored powder to mix with milk. It came out kind of thick. I only have vague memories of this from when I was very young, but remember them fondly.

Little cherry turnovers in the refrigerated dough section. You unwrapped the dough roll and carefully tore out the triangles and rolled them up with the cherry pie filling. After they were baked you squeezed the vanilla icing onto them. They weren't real puffy or flakey but boy did they make a great late night snack for my cousins and me on weekends.

Pepperidge Farm crusty rolls. The stuff they make now isn't the same. These came partially pre-baked (you had to finish in the oven). They came in 2 sizes - sandwich size, a mini loaf about 6" long, and dinner roll size. They came packaged in a box, not a plastic bag. I don't think they were in the freezer section. I googled this a few weeks back and came up with something that looked about right but seemed to be only available commercially (wholesale, not retail) but I can't find those links now. It's not the same as the "Hearty" line, that came out around 2005 or 2006. These were dusted with cornmeal and they were not baked enough to look brown. These were used to make "French Bread pizza" in the pizzeria I worked in in the 70's, and by a local Italian place for their bread-in-a-basket and as the vehicle for their (WONDERFUL) eggplant subs. They tasted great!

Pull-apart dinner rolls. They came in a "loaf" shape like bread. There were 2 loafs to a package and each loaf had about 8 tear off slices. Very light and fluffy. Can't remember if they were made by Franz or Wonder bread. But served hot, they were so delicious. Always had them at holiday's.

Regal Crown sours, as someone posted above, were awesome! I loved the cherry and kind of remember they made a root beer one too but now I'm not sure. Not sure who did make them. REEDS, it was Reeds and they had cinnamon and maybe butter scotch as well. Oh, I think I lived on Reeds root beer rolls...so delicious!

So many items that I loved are gone :( The three that stick out the most in my mind are:

1. Planters Cheese Balls. I like Cheetos, but they aren't the same, not even close. Those balls were so buttery and addictive.

2. Ben & Jerry's Rain Forest Crunch ice cream. That stuff was like crack to me in my late teens and early 20's. Up until then i was pretty much a chocolate-based ice cream only kind of girl. Rain Forest Crunch was and remains the only non-chocolate containing ice cream that I have ever truly LOVED. When it left me, it broke my heart. I've never quite gotten over it.

3. I don't remember the brand, but I *think* it was Marzetti, one of their shelf-stable dressings, not refrigerated. Parmesan Peppercorn dressing. it wasn't Caesar, it wasn't a Parmesan pepper Ranch or a creamy Italian.... It was thick and rich and had slivers of parm in a creamy, cheesy dressing studded with bits of cracked peppercorns. It was the best dressing in the world, and I'll be damned if I can find it anymore. I've even looked through their website, and all I see are a Parmesan ranch and an aged Asiago Peppercorn, which while I'm sure is tasty, isn't the same. *sigh* I content myself with Caesar, but I would give anything for another bottle of the Parmesan peppercorn.

Progresso's "Pepper Salad". This was like a Pepperonata, but had an absolutely perfect balance of olive oil/vinegar. My mom used to make a fabulous dish of roasted chicken leg quarters with a jar of this salad roasted in with the chicken drippings. It was wonderful, & even making my own Pepperonata I'm finding it hard to duplicate.

I've also recently noticed that Progresso's cartons of Chicken Broth are no longer on the store shelves, & I found their brand to be extremely flavorful. Still have 3 cartons in the pantry. Guess they've discontinued that as well. Good grief. Is it that everyone is more interested in the processed stuff - i.e. canned soup???

I grew up on Nuteena, too! I loved that stuff! You either loved it or your hated it! Apparently, they sold the recipe to "Cedar Lake Foods". It is now called, "Nutee-Supreme". Have just received that very sad news that Morga vegetable bouillon is no longer being made.
It was a fabulous flavor, my family's go-to broth for as long as I can remember. 

And, as is usually the case, no advance notice was given or I'd have stocked up while it was still available.

A sad but typical example of the of the public paying a high price for corporate jockeying, where one company gobbles up another, and if there are any truly excellent products in the legacy, they are soon discontinued. Such items often seem to have a smaller profit margin to offer the new owners, and little thought is given to longtime customers when something that's considered a minor product gets the axe..

I'm stricken with actual grief over this loss, but somehow unsurprised.

Salve et vale, Morga! You shall be dearly missed, and not by me alone. Of this I am certain.

Several people have mentioned Ben and Jerry's Rainforest Crunch ice cream--oh, that was the best!

But I also miss Rainforest Cookies (not to be confused with http://www.amazon.com/Frankly-Natural-Bakers-Rainforest-2-12-Ounce/dp/B002BFZAT8) made by some obscure brand (which I can't remember), that donated money to preserving the rainforest, from every purchase. These came in a green-ish/yellow box. They were so buttery tasting, and I believe they had Brazil nuts and other goodies inside. Delicious! I bought these in the late '80s and early '90s at Safeway; that's the last time I remember seeing them. I'd kill for another box of 'em.

Also on my radar is Edy's moose tracks ice cream that had firm pieces of fudge ribbon, instead of the soft and gooey fudge sauce, throughout it. I found out that they actually haven't discontinued it, but they only sell it under their Dreyer's line on the West coast.

And what I wouldn't do for one more taste of (blush) fried chicken from the Red Barn! I KNOW! Fast-food chix, but it was AWESOME! Same for Shakey's fried chicken and potatoes, but I understand that there are still Shakey's restaurants, but not in the DC metro area anymore.

Speaking of potatoes, does anyone remember the "taters" from Holly Farms' fast food restaurants (also in the DC metro area)? They were thick, well-seasoned wedges--perfectly cooked. Holly Farms is also gone.

My favorite cereal EVAH(!) disappeared in the '80s: Raisins, Rice, and Rye from Kellogg's. I loved how thick and crunchy the flakes were; I think if you left your bowl of this cereal for an hour, the flakes still wouldn't have gotten soggy. And it wasn't cloying like most sweetened cereals. Raisin Bran Crunch comes close, but it falls in the cloying category, and it doesn't stay crispy like Raisins, Rice, and Rye did.

Oh, wait! There were these bacon-flavored snacks in the '70s. I can't remember what they were called, but they were slightly puffy, bacon-shaped ... crispy things; they must have been corn or rice-based, with bacon-like flavoring.

Wow, it's funny that everything I've listed is junk food, but my parents didn't allow us to eat much junk. Hmm.

Uncle Ira's post on potato chips got me all riled up on this topic again.

Over the last few years, and with increasing frequency, so many products seem to come and go. Often they don't seem to be given much of a chance. We, the consumer are left out there...as Ira said, he feels like he's been dumped. Sometimes I write to ask what's up and usually there is no response. That upsets me the most. So much for customer loyalty.

Growing up in a "hippy" house in the early 70's, my mother did alot of experimenting in the kitchen. There was a stretch when the only meat we ate was seafood... blue crab, clams, razor clams, oysters, striper, bluefish, flounder, tautog, mullet, eel, etc. Living a block away from the Atlantic and half a block from Rehoboth Bay in Dewey Beach, DE, we had such a great variety seafood, I don't really recall missing "meat". Oh, this conjures up taste bud memories! When I was in college there was a small boxed cake mix called Stir 'N Frost that came complete with everything you needed to bake and frost it. It had a cardboard "pan" that you mixed and baked the cake in, and a squeeze tube of frosting, which was great because we didn't own bakeware, or an electric mixer. The "Payday Nite Special" was a baked potato with all the trimmings, fresh broccoli, Kraft Mac 'n Cheese (22cents a box!) and a Stir 'N Frost yellow cake with chocolate frosting. We were living good! 

Sometimes we would sub the Stir 'N Frost for another miracle of modern food technology which was Whip 'N Chill. It was a precursor to my present addiction to Chocolate Mousse. As other posters have mentioned it was a light mousse-like concoction that took no time to make and gave an elegant chocolate mousse experience long before any of us knew what chocolate mousse was!

Even tho they haven't been discontinued (but should be) I also fondly remember the days when Reese's Peanut Butter Cups were outstanding. They were rich and chocolatey, and creamy with real peanut butter. Now they are just a cheap immitation of their former taste and glory and have the pitiful mouthfeel of a petroleum product.

I also miss Peanut Butter Logs, but someone recently said they were available at "retro candy" sites, and a simple rectangular shaped coconut cookie, that I can't remember the name of.

There also used to be a saltine cracker that was far superior to the common Nabisco saltines. It was richer, flakier and more buttery, but I can't remember the name of that either.

I miss Chef Boy R dee Mini Bites. They still have them but they used to be a mini cheese stuffed ravioli with those little meatballs they put in everything else but now they changed the filling to the same meatfilling in their other ravioli with the same mini meatballs again. I want my cheese filling raviolis back!

Old el Paso Enchilada kits! These were awesome and while very labour intensive one of my favorite 'store bought kit,' products ever. No other store bought enchilada sauce I ever bought comes close to the mix they had and it WAS different from the regular taco seasoning mix. Plus the torillas were corn and required you to layer them between tinfoil and a tiny bit of water and put in the over to soften them up to become pliable and were so much better than making enchiladas with flour tortillas. 

BTW if any chowhound mods are reading this, threads that are this long in posts take FOREVER to load and cause pc's to go haywire. As I type there is lag before the letters I've typed appear on the screen and there's nothing wrong with my pc. It's probably that 'whos talking' box to the right trying to load too many profiles and just wasting bandwith so it would be nice if it were looked into at least.

Does anyone remember SURGE?! It was a green soda, kind of like Mountain Dew.. but the taste was completely different and SO good!! Lol. I used to get the Surge Icee whenever my mom and i went to the local gas station. I miss it so much!!

The food I miss the most? Ice Cubes. The little chocolate squares, made by some German company...they used to be like 25 cents a piece at the counter at Longs or the grocery stores when I was growing up. I dunno what about them, but they were the best chocolates EVER. It literally melted the instant it hit your tongue. Then they disappeared...though I can find them online on those nostalgic candy sites but they're either sold in like huge buckets, or they're stupid expensive (by the time you add shipping). 

Maruchan tomato ramen. I used to eat a pack of ramen every single day after school as a teen, I'd even skip lunch half the time b/c I'd rather eat a pack of tomato ramen instead of anything else...but somewhere along the line the tomato flavor disappeared. Now I don't really eat top ramen anymore but I'd kill for a pack of tomato flavor. 

Last thing - Costco used to have these little frozen pastry things, they were almost like a toaster strudel-type thing, except in the middle was this creamy cheese filling. I have no idea what they were called or what kind of cheese they were but any morning with one of those little cheese dealies out of the toaster was a good morning. Does anyone else remember those?? I miss them so much!!!

Table Talk Boston Cream (or was it "Creme"?) Pie.

Specfically, the version I knew as a kid, where the filling was a vanilla cream not unlike the filling in a Twinkie (but, as I recall, smoother and tastier, almost like the frosting from a good bakery). We used to be able to get them cheap (on or just before the sell-by date) at the Table Talk store in Davis Square (Somerville, MA) in its pre-hip days.

At some point (early 80s?), Table Talk changed the filling to a more authentic custardy thing, and just ruined it for me. (By any reasonable standard, it was probably an upgrade, but it wasn't what I was craving!)

Mrs. Neusihin’s Pickles as were when was a kid here in Oregon (old school made with no vinegar in a salt / water / garlic brine) . Now too sour when made with vinegar.

Steinfeld's Pickles (now made in India like so many other pickles including Nalleys). Store pickles are no longer consistently crispy fresh. Or taste like they used to in familiar name brand jars that now say product of India in the fine print if look. Home made pickles starting with freshest products taste the best and can not always be sure will get that in local stores today.

RC Cola & other soda made with sugar (old time real real sugar soda water tastes better than the corn syrup used today like coke from Mexico Costco sells in little bottles by the case). Possibly there could be reduced amount of real-sugar stronger flavored soda someday as is sold overseas. The soda sold in the Mexican isle made with sugar tastes good until find others for the few times a month drink it now when used to daily.

Sour cream made of only cultured cream. Like Daisy brand is now is how all used to be made - read the ingredients. 

Best Foods / Hellman's Mayo in glass re-usable jars. Especially the quart and gallon sizes. 

Food in glass instead plastic leaching toxins.

Fair portions of natural-raised fish, beef, chicken, turkey, pork, etc. Instead of pumped with hormones protein given antibiotics GMO-corn rodents won't eat fattened. Now school children and us peoples have been unknowingly often fed meat with 'pink slime' ammonia treated meat. No wood pulp considered a cellulose seasoning in Taco bell meat and others. No color died beef as changes its natural color.

More natural products are harder to find. Made from basic ingredients if look. Sometimes find treasures in the bulk bins especially at Winco. Instead camouflaged garbage is often sold as food on most store shelves intended to only make manufacturers as much money as can often without a focus on health because the US government is often swayed by cash to not protect consumers from processed food products.

I know this is an old thread, but this is my first post here and I couldn't resist replying!!
I DEFINITELY miss the Planters Cheez Balls, but I also used to love O'Boisies potato chips that Keebler made! They came in plain and sour cream and onion and my dad and I used to LOVE them! They were so light and airy and I wish I could find them again, but I am pretty sure that Keebler discontinued them. 
I also miss Castleberry beef stew. (Think Dinty Moore, but another brand) Sooooo bad for you, but so delicious. I am pretty sure that the "beef" wasn't actual meat, but I mostly just ate it for the potatoes anyway! LOL I wish I could find it again. It was a staple in my house growing up as my mom didn't cook much.

There are so many old products that I miss but I'll list three:

- Burry's Mr. Chips cookies: IMO these were a light-year better than Chips A'hoy or the Keebler Rich-n-Chips

- "Frosted" frozen milk shakes: Came in small cans in the frozen orange juice section. I thought these were terrific. I got two cans per week as a treat from Mom for behaving in the store.

Now for the third: I can't remember the name but it was a frozen Orange drink that was advertised by Popeye the Sailor in the late '60s early '70s. I just loved that taste of that stuff.

7-11 Slurpee. They used to be made without so much air in the end result with bigger iced flavor crystals. More air was added to increase profits am sure. Personally recall when the old machines were all swapped out one store at a time to the more-air Slurpee that is today considered normal (about the same time dome lids were brought in to cover the Slurpee cup - the old lids before were flat a crossed the top of the cup). I used to ride my one speed for miles for a Slurpee or two on a hot day (often Coke on the bottom half and Cherry or another strong fruit flavor on the top half). Recall back in the 70s during the OPEC embargo when the cups you could collect were cartoon characters, sports people / teams, and sea creatures (may still have complete sets of cups for the sea creatures around). The 7-11 Slurpee now has too much air for me so do not buy. Miss the old Slurpee and now no where to get. The old ones if melted, would not loose as much volume - had more liquid than today in each cup (and each bite). Without as much air the flavor was more intense and so was the cold. It is similar to the Icee sold at other stores including KMart with other small convenience stores when I was younger - The air-filled fluffy Icee drank never compared and now 7-11 downgraded to be like everyone else.

A Mr Misty is good at Dairy Queen but more like a snow cone as just flavored ice you can suck out with a straw and end up with a cup of white ice (so when eating I use a spoon instead of a straw and am sure to eat some ice with each bite of flavoring and stir it often). 

The drink machines in New Orleans, LA on Bourbon Street create drinks with a consistency how I recall the no air added original 7-11 Slurpee used to be.

I Miss them, especially on a hot day.

Hungry-Man used to make a microwave meal called Fisherman's Platter. The meal contained breaded fish portions, shrimp, and oh it was bloody amazing. As a cook, I almost never touch anything that must be microwaved but this particular product was just delicious. After the late Nineties I was never able to find it anywhere. I wrote to the company to make an inquiry, and they informed me the product had been discontinued in 2000.

Wow, these are all really old products. Let's start skewing this list a little closer to the 90s, the APEX of all processed food.

1) Cookies and Cream Twix
Sold for a very brief period, it was luxuriously creamy with a firm and almost salty intense chocolate shortbread base.

2) Planters PB Crisps
How hasn't anybody mentioned this? It was officially discontinued by Planters because it was "too delicious."

3) Ben and Jerry's Wavy Gravy
Just troll the internet for ice cream freaks still pining daily for this stunning flavor combining a sweet cream brazil nut ice cream base with a hazelnut fudge ripple, caramel, and chopped almonds.

4) Oreo O's / Frosted Mini Chex / Sprinkle Spangles 
In a way I am glad none of these 3 amazing cereals exist anymore because I would be obese. The marshmallow flavor of the mini chex was wonderful, as was the crunch of the Sprinkle Spangles.

I miss Sealtest vanilla ice cream, which was fresh, reasonably dense and had a distinct vanilla flavor. The company that made it got bought by bigger corporate fish, one of which eventually killed it, but retained the right to make it, so now no one gets to enjoy it.

Hill Farms eggnog was the best--sweet but not cloying so, and with a distinct vanilla and rum flavor. You used to be able to get it at Jewel Food Stores in the midwest, but it's long gone. it may have been a house brand.

Whip and Chill--This was a poor man's chocolate mousse. It was somewhat lighter than most chocolate mousses (and a little less intense in its chocolate flavor) but it was an awfully good packaged imitation of the chocolate mousses which I make at home now.

I thought of some more, going through this post:

1. Cheese Waffies--They were very crunchy sandwiches of cheddar cheese. The cheddar actually tasted sharp and the two inch waffle sandwiching the cheese was really thin and crisp.

2. Peppermint Ice Cream--Yeah, I know that you can still get this today, but it is not the same. This ice cream had actual chips of peppermint candy in it and was set in a vanilla ice cream. 3. Pillsbury Skillet Lasagne--This was really good and had flavor. I think Kraft makes a version now and I bought some but have not cooked it. I am not hopeful, though, because other manufacturers have made versions from time to time and they never tasted as good as the Pillsbury version. Campbell's used to make a Chicken and Dumplings soup that I adored as a kid. It was just the regular soup in the small can - the one you add liquid to. I think Quaker made these, and I can't remember what they were called. Toastables, maybe? They were Pop Tart knock-offs, but the pastry was more wholesome and the filling seemed to maybe kinda sorta have been some sort of REAL FRUIT in the beginning.

Sunshine "Aunt Sally" cookies - A rectangular-shaped, sort of solid ginger cookie; not chewy like Archway but not a ginger snap either, covered on top with vanilla icing. Great with coffee, milk, or by itself. Long gone...

Campbell's Cream of Chicken Noodle Soup - Cross all the best things about chicken noodle and cream of chicken and you'd get this. Never easy to find; Wal-Mart was the only store that carried it in my area, and they haven't had it in years.

One that's still around but hard to find: Dad's root beer in cans. K-mart has it in quart bottles, but they tend to "go flat" before I can finish one. Contacted Dad's HQ; they directed my inquiry to what they listed as their local wholesaler; turns out the wholesaler hadn't handled Dad's in years!

Hey guys - I need your help!
A friend of mine was describing a product that his grandmother used to buy. He said he hasn't eaten it in at least 10 years.

Eagle Brand had a box kit for Pumpkin Gems. They were basically little individual pumpkin pies, the kit had a crust mix and a filling mix. I remember it being a little more complicated than your average box dessert, maybe that's why they discontinued them? 
My mom and I picked some up on a whim maybe 6 thanksgivings ago and everyone went CRAZY for them with some homemade whipped cream on top. We made them the following year and then they were discontinued!! I've never been more disappointed! We still talk about them and I have even e-mail the company. :(

I didn't even realize at first that they were bought by Snyder's & are made in PA now. Makes sense though because I thought that they DO taste different. Anyone else remember Big John's Baked Beans? They were in a tall blue can with a lumberjack on them. It had a small can of sauce attached to the big can. We ate those all the time.

My husband & I were also talking about that candy Bonkers. It had several square pieces in a long pack. I remember getting grape. Years (AND YEARS) ago there was a product (maybe only in the midwest) called Reineke's Popcorn Topping, which came in foil packets and was delicious! When it disappeared from the stores, I found I could mail-order it direct from them by the case (used to give the excess away as gifts.) Then they stopped making it altogether.

(I recently learned the Reineke family is making the stuff again, but sell it only to groups as a fund-raising item; and anyway, they only make the nacho now, not the regular cheddar...)

For a long time I used Kraft's Macaroni & Cheese topping in a can, but it wasn't as good and now it's discontinued too. Have heard of a product called Cabot's Cheddar Shake but no one in my area carries it. 

Haven't tried Kernel Seasons; is it more of a flavoring or just flavored salt (which I don't like.) Any suggestions?

Going through the list reminded me of how I also miss: Hawaiian Punch Concentrate great memories of 'spiked' punches in school sometimes even made concentrated with 'Everclear' way back when where "went down like a lolly pop and hit like a freight train".

Worse than gone are all the marginal products now that wear the label of something that was once awesome. Mrs Neusihin's pickles is an example, made local naturally fermented with no vinegar when a kid a personal favorite. Bought by Steinfeld's, then Steinfeld's was bought by Dean foods who eventually moved Steinfeld's, Neusihin's, with Nalley pickles and more to India. Neusihin's now have vinegar and are not the same. Another example: the original Levi's were hemp and would not rot in salt water (same material as sales and ropes for ships). Sperry Top-Siders "boat shoes" used to use hemp strings and now use cotton strings and cloth so their shoes fall apart now in salt water. All the corn syrup in things that used to use cane sugar is another sad example: soda, juice, syrup, bbq sauce, salad dressings, ... Plastic containers instead of glass not as healthy sold to the public anyway. Smaller containers or packages same price. Is sad when see companies make huge money to sell 'currently available crap' based on past reputation - they freely participate in 'bait and switch in disguise' and get away with it because people keep buying it anyway. 

We adapt. Have found a decent French Russian Red dressing can be made when start with equal parts: catsup, vinegar, oil, and cane sugar. And this is not right and kind of sweet. Can change or add as desired - a favorite variety is half the cane sugar, half the oil <avocado works>, salt, pepper, Worcestershire, using white vinegar, and a few drops hot sauce. "Simply Heinz" is my go-to brand when do not make my own catchup. 

I sometimes like a little French dressing drizzled on a garden salad. To me it is a welcome addition for a French "topper" drizzled on other dressings like: ranch, Italian, blue cheese, etc. Not mixed in until eaten. Feel it expands flavor. Especially like ranch topped French on a green salad. Ranch, a drizzle topper of French, with drops of hot sauce is a favorite on taco salad (which often includes meat, cheese, and salsa).

It's getting to be the time of year when I start to cry. Chipwich Egg Nog. Hands down IMHO the best nog in the dairy case. Ortega's Chipotle Taco Sauce- it made a great "chili pie" when you mixed it with beef and corn and topped it with cheese and cornbread.

Best pizza peppers ever and while the company still exist I cannot locate this anywhere. I'm actually trying to sprout the only seed that was left in my jar.

The corporate office in Columbia responded to an E-mail and hopes to have them available again in the US this year.

There was also a hot sauce Peppa-Po that I miss as well.

I miss the Pepperidge Farm Three Layer Spice Cake...ate it all the time back in the 70s...there was always a Pepperidge Farm Spice Cake in our house! I can still imagine the taste...and sadly, no other spice cake compares. I wish they would bring this back

I miss Sarah Lee's Walnut cake.
I live in Staten Island and the closest I came too it was a walnut Dream cake with butter cream frosting (my idea by the way!) It was a hit !!
But sadly no where near the Sarah Lee version!

I don't know if it's still made, but my grandmother always drank Tab, as she was diabetic, and Tab used saccharin, not sugar. I so loved that sacchariny goodness, I was hooked after the first one. Course, that was back when a teen might have a soda per week, and it was a 16 oz. returnable glass bottle shared by 2. These days, these kids just chug those hug bottles of Dew and wash it down with a king sized Snickers. Uff!

Carolina black forest turkey ham at the deli counter. I don't eat pork, so this product was a great substitute for on egg sandwiches, in omelets, in quiche lorraine, etc. And then suddenly, after decades, it was gone. I don't think there's another product like it, at least not at the stores where I shop.

Back in the day, Walgreens (a pharmacy) sold an ice cream bar on a stick made with raspberry sorbet and covered in dark chocolate. It was divine. The brand name was "Nice!," which I *think* was a Walgreens brand. The tartness of the raspberry sorbet covered with the mildly sweet dark chocolate was a perfect combination. I would have NEVER thought to try a no-name ice cream marketed by a pharmacy, but Consumer Reports claimed that the brand Nice! made the top rated "non-premium" ice cream sandwich. And, yes, it was very good. But then I saw the raspberry sorbet bars, tried them and I was hooked! I haven't seen Nice! ice cream in Walgreens for several years now but I can't get it out of my mind.

I might as well add to this.

Keebler Wheatables snack crackers. I liked the 7 grain the best, but the golden wheat was still very good. There is no comparison to anything else that I can find. Last winter I tried a box of Wheat Thins again, and it was so awful, I was compelled to write Keeber/Kelloggs to tell them there is no competition, they should bring back the Wheatables and how Wheat Thins taste stale right out of the box and not a good flavor. They kindly let me know that Wheatables had been discontinued (duh!). 

Act II Old Fashioned Natural popcorn. Everything else is loaded with so much salt it is practically inedible, and I am a person who likes things salted! Pop Secret Homestyle is the closest I can find but it isn't quite the same and doesn't taste as well. With the Act II Natural, I would add a touch of oil, shake the bag, and it tasted like my dad's homemade popcorn on the stove. I have a whirly pop, too, but when it's just me, I like to use the microwave. I think I did write Act II several years ago when they discontinued, they claimed it wasn't popular. You'd think they'd offer some kind of healthier choice and not so much sodium.

Some things are very salty, my homemade Chex Mix recipe from the manufacturer(!) is not nearly as salty their bag of Chex Mix sold in stores. 

For my husband, Knorr pasta sides BEEF flavor. No, stroganoff isn't the same, if it is available. This was his fast home meal with sirloin tip steak. Anyway, beef was discontinued and we don't buy this stuff anymore. 

But some good news for my husband. For a little while, Dan-dee corn twistees were discontinued because the manufacturer went out of business. Somebody took over not long ago, so my husband is now very happy to have them again.

I might be one of the few that will miss having Necco wafers. I only got them once in a while when available, and usually when travelling. My husband thinks they tasted like chalk. I had them when I was a kid.

I miss Campbell’s condensed consume it was one of my Umami favourites. I used it a lot but I guess that the company wanted to save a few pennies and changed the recipe.
