Disappointment at Tre Scalini

Have to share my disappointment with dinner Friday night at Tre Scalini. My friend from out of town wanted to experience great Italian cooking, and I'd never been before but heard positive things, so we went and ordered a great deal. The rundown:

The bouillabaise was so-so; seafood well-cooked, broth lacking; and they served it with plates rather than bowls.

The black pasta with seafood was terrific- just as notes on this board said.

The fennel salad was mediocre, and far too large in portion size

The veal chop--supposedly a real treat--was completely dried out and nearly tasteless.

The veal medallions were a bit juicier, but hardly worth the price.

The service was abysmal-- we were ignored repeatedly, the waitress was rude, and insisted on calling us 'girls' which my 55 yr old friend really objected to, the courses were brought out of order, and towards the end of the meal, the chef came out and sat down and had a smoke right next to us (is there even a smoking section there?).

All in all, pretty disappointing. Spent $95, hardly worth it. I assume from the reviews that others had a different experience? Was service ever good??
