I've had both good and bad meals at Loteria Grill. I thought I had the place psyched out: the food sits in steam table trays, so you just study the food to see if it's good. So I tried that plan today, and it failed. The food actually didn't seem all that compelling, but it did seem fresh and vaguely plausible. So I ordered the best of it, a chicken mole poblano burrito, not cheap. It was a "never again" experience. It tasted terrible, not like it was stale, or spoiled or nasty, but because someone just didn't care when they were making it. How to describe it? Watery? Ugh. Don't go there. Banana Leaf isn't great but it's good, and Moishe's is simple and honest, and I'm told the donuts at Bob's are good though they seem generic to me, and that's basically it.
