I met a friend for lunch at Devlin's in Brighton Center today and was fairly disappointed by the food. It's definitely not a place that I go to for creative or noteworthy good, but it's close to my office, reasonably priced and has always had decent food in my previous visits. My friend started with the french onion soup, which was "fine" according to her but was practically devoid of cheese on the top. I got the three grain veggie burger with a side caesar and she ordered the tuna melt special. My burger was the kind of mushy and tasteless patty that really turns people off to ever trying a veggie burger again when you try to convince them that non-meat burgers can be delicious. It was served with a bland tzatziki and sliced red onion that was quite mushy and clearly rather old. The side caesar was OK but some of the lettuce was beginning to brown, and the dressing was forgettable. My friend's tuna melt had an ominous fish scent and taste, to the point that we couldn't confirm or deny whether something was wrong with it, so she ended up sending it back and ordering a buffalo chicken sandwich. The buffalo chix was tasty enough, but it was not enough to save the lunch. I don't know if they had an off day or what, but the fact that both of our meals were subpar makes me hesitant to return again.
