Went to Royal Star to yum cha at about 12 on Saturday (haven't been for perhaps a year). The place was busy, as I remembered, but I can't think why. The range of dim sum was severely limited, and the carts took FOREVER to come around. We were forced to resort to ordering a la carte, which was extortionate. The quality of what we did have was good, to be fair, but the selection has clearly been tailored to match the gweilo neighborhood. No short ribs, no shrimp/scallop dumlings, no mixed vegetable dumplings...the list goes on. Next time I'm forced to stay on the West Side, it'll be back to VIP for me. Does Jin Jiang on Santa Monica and Sepulveda do dim sum?
