Disappointed with Morton's steak

Leo Scanlon | Dec 23, 2002 10:30 AM

Four of us from my office went to Morton's at Conn. & L for lunch last Thursday, courtesy of the company. I ordered the caesar salad, porterhouse steak, and lyonnaise potatoes, and we split two desserts, apple pie and Godiva chocolate cake. I was well pleased with the service, the ambience, and all of the food...except the steak.

I ordered the steak medium, and the inside was perfect. The outside however, had a charred, slightly burnt flavor that pretty much ruined it for me. It wasn't really bad enough to send back, but for $34.95, I guess I was expecting heaven on a plate. When I make porterhouse steak at home, I put some spices on it (garlic powder, lemon pepper, basil), broil it in the oven at about 450-deg for 4 1/2 or 5 minutes per side. I'll tell you, my homemade steaks are better than that steak I got at Morton's. Comments?
