[NOTE: We've moved the thread on which this post originally appeared, and you can read the original thread at http://www.chowhound.com/topics/525827 . That thread is on the Site Talk board because the issue raised is not really a local issue. However, we'd encourage Boston posters to use this thread to discuss the restaurants in particular (or other Boston-area restaurants which are "Chowhound Favorites" but have't delivered for you.) As 9lives says so well on that thread "If you're disappointed in a place, give the names. Favorites don't stay favorites if they start getting negative reviews." This board is only as accurate and current as you folks make it, so please help everyone by pointing people towards great chow and away from bad chow. -- THE CHOWHOUND TEAM ]
I don't see a good reason to pull your punches on bad experiences; indeed, it's a great service to the board to offer dissenting opinions, especially on places that are "popular".
Thailand Cafe is the only Thai place I know in Cambridgeport, and I know I've never done anything but slag it here. I sure don't remember any raves about it on this board: it's a typical suburban American Thai restaurant (most everything overly sweetened, little chili fire in anything, the same twenty dishes you see everywhere) that happens to be in Central Square.
Was Grain and Salt your Indian/Pakistani dud in Allston, by any chance? I had better luck there, though it was a few months ago, and my clear favorites were the Desi Chinese dishes.
