Here's the deal: My sister is coming to town next week with a group of people for a conference. I am going to grab her and take her out to dinner when I can, but I am trying to compile a list that 1) keeps them away from fast food and 2) meets their tight per diem.
I think that she is being given $150 for 6 days of meals. If they don't eat breakfast, or get it from the conference, that is an average of $12.50/meal. (I think that this is a volunteer deal, or that the org didn't agree to pay all expenses as it's voluntary)
I have the list of places to order from covered, as well as a list of suggestions if they can take BART to the Mission.
One other caveat -- I am not sure that her companions are very adventrous -- the places need to sound mainstream enough to keep them out of Taco Bell.
Here is the list of places that I have right around the Marriott/Moscone center. Anyone have additions? Any of them off base?
Good, cheap Chinese food:
110 Natoma Street (at Second Street)
menu, by a psycho guy who posted as he ate everything on the menu: http://greasepig.com/henrys/
my favorite thing there: harvest pork. yum.
Place to get a Grilled Cheese Sandwich:
Top floor of the Metreon, there is a "where the wild things are" restaurant. When they are open (hours are random I think), they make a great g.c. and you can sit outside and look @ the city.
Good bagels/bagel sandwiches:
Katz Bagels, 604 Mission (2nd).
Cha Am, 701 Folsom Street (3rd), 415.546.9710.
I have not eaten here, but I have on good authority that it's decent
Fast food I'll endorse:
There's a Rubio's tacos in the downstairs of the SF Center (Market and 5th)
Good Indian (tandoori chicken wraps, etc).
Chaat Cafe, 320 Third Street (at Folsom)
Good Mexican, but a little walk:
Chavo's, 595 Bryant (4th).
Good, cheapish Italian
Pazzia, 337 3rd Street (Folsom)
I haven't been there, but the prices are right and I have read several reviews of it being good.
Random ass place to eat:
Torpedo Joe's in the Old Navy Store, 4th and Market
It's got decent sandwiches.
