Dinner tonight at Arrivederci in Hillcrest

My mom and I went to dinner tonight at Arrivederci and we had a 6 oclock reservation. When we arrived there at 6 not many poeple were there so we didn't end up needing a reservation. The first table we were brought to was super cramped and in the middle of two tables that were completely full with 4 people. We asked to be brought to another table and they brought us to a table that was right up against a wall with no room to move what so ever. So we asked them if we could sit at a table with four so we could have more room and they of course said no which I guess is understandable but they could've said it in a nicer way. Finally we decided to take the table up against the wall because we didn't want to be on top of other people and hear there conversations going on during dinner. I had heard a lot that Arrivederci was cramped but I had no idea it would be like this. When were finally seated I was hungry so i ordered the Trecolori Fantastica to share with my mom. When the waiter brought the salad out he had split it for us even though we didn't ask him to do that so I thought that would be a nice gesture if they didn't charge us for it.Also with the salad he brought the bread with their tomato dipping sauce. The bread was warm and pretty good but not great. The tomato dip was also good but could have used more flavor. Next was trying the salad I have to say the salad was the best part of the meal. The dressing was amazing it had a sweet flavor but it wasn't to sweet, also the goat cheese went really well with the dressing. I only have one complaint about the salad that the walnuts weren't carmelized, the walnuts had no flavor and didn't add to the salad at all. After that I had finally decided what I wanted to order I decided on their pesto but I asked for it with penne and chicken. My mom ordered their farfale vodka with chicken. It took about 15 min for the food to come which was really quick for a Friday night. When the food came my mom and I decided we would share the pastas. The first bite I took of my pesto pasta tasted amazing but then after a few bites I realized that if I kept eating it I would probablly feel sick. The sauce was extremely heavy and overwhelming but I decided to eat a little bit more of it because there was nothing wrong with it, I just realized tonight that I don't like heavy sauces anymore. My mom decided to try mine and she said she liked mine more so I decided to trade with her. When i tryed her farfale I actually like hers more. The sauce was way lighter but it was still a little bit heavy, Also it didn't exactly taste like vodka sauce because it had to much tomato sauce in it. But it was still a well executed pasta dish and i almost finished all of it. By the time I was done I realized that I had eaten too much and kind of felt sick; so did my mom she said the taste of the pesto was good but she agreed that it was also to heavy and said she kind of felt gross. We both realized tonight that we don't like heavy cream sauces as much as we thought. But I will say that Arrivederci still makes great pasta. The pesto sauce was made very well the way a pesto sauce should be made; I just realized tonight that that kind of pesto sauce wasn't for me. Also that I probablly wouldn't order the Vodka sauce again because that was also heavy but they still did a good job of making it. If out of town visitors were coming in and they asked for an italian restaurant I would even reccomend Arriverderci for them because they do make great pasta, I just wasn't feeling it tonight. There is also one other the waiters and the people there were all kind of pretentous and I hate being in an atmosphere like that. My experience wasn't that bad even thought it may sound like it, I would reccomend this restaurant, I just went home feeling sick tonight.
