Dinner at Taste of India - Layton UT

Philber | Dec 31, 201008:27 AM

My family and I were in Northern Utah for Christmas. We live in Las Vegas and have numerous dining options available for virtually any cuisine. We were interested in trying something other than the normal steak and potatoes restaurant on this trip so I reviewed the options available on and found Taste of India. The reviews I read sounded good so we decided to give it a try. There were seven of us in the party so we were able to order a nice variety. We started with the Assorted Fritters ($6.99) which had 6 different types of appetizers, several with three pieces. This was a hit with everyone at the table, even those who had never tried Indian food before. Two folks ordered the Vegetable soup and both commented on the great depth of flavor and complimentary spices. We ordered several lamb and chicken dishes varying in preparation from Tandoori to Tikka Masala. All were well prepared and served at the requested degree of "heat" which ranged from mild to very hot. Everyone enjoyed their choice, but my favorite was the Chicken Tikka Masala ($13.99), while my wife and daughter preferred the Chicken Curry ($12.99). The only dish I considered a "miss" was the Shrimp Masala ($15.99) as the shrimp were overcooked and rubbery. The lamb dishes were all excellent. The basamati rice served on the side was perfectly prepared. The Naan ($1.99) and Onion Naan ($2.59) were both excellent with the plain Naan being my favorite.

Service was excellent! When we told our waitress that we would be taking the leftovers to include the rice, which we planned to use to make fried rice, they quickly brought out containers AND a complimentary extra order of rice to "make sure you have enough fried rice for everyone".

When we arrived I told the waitress that we were using a gift certificate and they honored the $50 certificate with a smile.

We'll be going back to Taste of India on our next trip.
