dinner at san francisco's NORTH BEACH RESTAURANT

Well, what i have heard lately about this san francisco eatery i found all too true: there is a superior attitude by the waite staff, and i felt that our waiter couldn't wait for us to leave-3 times he tried to remove plates from diners who defintely were not done, and we were eating in the early hours of the evening. I'm not easy to please as far as service, but found it tacky when the waiter reached in front of me to serve water to someone else. As for the food, though i did not have pasta, i tasted some served at our table and found it very ordinary, and bit dry. I ordered proscutto with melon; what i got was one small sliver of melon, hidden beneath the ham. My entre though was excellent: carefully seasoned pieces of veal with large scampi, each of the items with its own distinctive sauces. The wine list is extensive, very strong in italian wines, which overall i found comparatively expensive for an italian wine list. Overall, I'd say, how much longer can this place rest on its laurels? No much longer I think.
