I will be meeting two San Francisco-based relatives for dinner. They are a young 50-something couple. They seem game for trying new places. That said, I think it would be safer to stay away from anything too edgy. Anything but Chinese would probably be fine.
It would be nice if the menu offered a variety of selections to satisfy differing preferences, and at various price points, e.g., main dishes in the $30+ range but also less-priced pastas. No hard dollar limits but I guess I'm thinking on the order of maybe $50-60 per person before drinks, tax and tip.
We went to Sakagura last time and they seemed to enjoy it. 'Cesca would fit the profile but I was hoping to try a new (to me) place. I'm not big on Dovetail and have read too many mixed reviews on 81 to want to to consider it.
Location: open but would prefer UWS, Village, Flat Iron vicinity.
Dress: anything short of formal (no jacket or tie for men) would be fine.
Noise level should be conducive to easy conversation.
Reservations for four or six should be possible on one week's notice.
Thanks for any ideas!
