A very quick review, but I wanted to say thanks for the advice and relay our recent dinner at Picholine. I was enjoying myself too much to take notes, so this will be unsatisfying, I know!
Dinner itself was very satisfying. Service was warm, but not TOO attentive, if you know what I mean. The amuse bouches were good, but the one I remember most was a panna cotta of some kind of vegetable. I went for three courses of savory, because the chocolates/tartlettes at the end are enough dessert for me.
I started off with the sea urchin, which was remarkable, as it was last time. I seriously could have ended right there. My next course was the mushroom risotto which was very filling, so that by the time my third course came, I was pretty done (not that I didn't finish my entire plate, mind you). I had the John Dory, and I'm not sure if it was because I was still moaning from my sea urchin and mushroom risotto, but as wonderful as it was, it wasn't as memorable as the first two courses. I think it was because I was on overload, because the last time I was there, the same thing happened by the third course for me. My companions had the Dory and the sea bass, respectively and were very happy. They ended on the apple caramel dessert, which they loved.
When management learned it was my birthday, but that I didn't want dessert, they boxed up a wonderful dessert for me to take home.
All in all, a great experience, again.
Sorry that I don't have the 'flair' most of you do for reviews, just wanted to say thank you for the advice prior to the event.
PS, I keep saying this, but I haven't done it - I'd love to go there one night and just do cheese cart and great wine. Has anyone done that?
