I had a very good dinner at Lacroix last week. We went all out with the seven course menu plus cheese. Some courses were certainly less inspired than others, the worst being an absolutely flavorless whitefish gnocchi. However, I was very happy by the end of the meal.
My only complaint is that which I usually have with all but the very best french cooking, is that it lacks any real soul. All the food is technically correct, but there is nothing that gets you really excited. The flavors and textures are very good, but nothing that really stirs your soul. Nothing that one thousand other "good" french restaurants couldn't do.
The wine list is also fairly unimaginative. I can't understand why restaurants with the aspirations of Lacroix do not see fit to substantially invest in a great wine list, not a list the is simply good.
