Dinner for Husband's 33rd Birthday

sw79 | Apr 26, 201509:12 AM

I'm visiting Chicago for my first time in July to celebrate husband's 33rd birthday (Chicago is his favorite city!). I tried to make a reservation at The Girl & The Goat (to give you an idea of what we're shooting for), but the only opening was at 5 pm. Does anyone have suggestions for trendy but comfortable (nice ambiance, not too stuffy) dinner spots with an inventive, creative menu and cocktail program? Price-wise I'd shoot for something with $20 - $40 entrees and we're really flexible as to cuisine, although he doesn't eat mammals (beef, pork, lamb, etc.). We're willing to spend considerably more for a good tasting menu but want to avoid stuffy white glove type places.

We are staying in the Magnificent Mile area but are open to anywhere we can get to easily via public transportation. Maybe somewhere with outside seating? Thanks in advance!
