We had a nice dinner at The Grape last night. The atmosphere, service, and the incredible bar are always a treat. I have one key objection with this well worn stalwart.........the food! This place has lousy food. We started with overcooked mussels in wine and stock. Then, my wife had the pork osso buco which was undercooked and flanked by frozen, jump out of a bag veggies. I had an overcooked halibut in some base cream sauce with the same Green Giant veggies. To finish, we sampled a Tres Leche cake which was obviously Duncan Hines in what appeared to be the same base cream concoction that bathed my halibut. We genuinely love the atmosphere of this place, but the food simply does not work and that's the problem. If they gave us something even close to New York bistro food........we would not complain. What happened to this place? Was the food passable at one time? Further, how can anyone who even pretends to rate upscale restaurants in DFW consider this place top notch?
