dinner at ebisu

razordog | Oct 11, 200312:10 AM

i went to ebisu for sushi on a friday night
i got there rather early and got a table without waiting at around 5:40

i haven't been here in awhile, maybe more than a year, but the last time i came the sushi was very good and we decided to dine here

i must say this place has been steadily going downhill

we ordered a la carte nigiri sushi plus an ankimo and grilled squid appetizer

the squid was a little overcooked and rubbery and drowned in poor sauce and the ankimo was just ok at best, not comparable at all to the other top sushi places in san francisco

now for the sushi, it was all pretty bad, not very fresh or clean tasting, first off, the portions of rice on each piece of sushi were too large and the rice was just too gummy and sticky and didn't taste very good for sushi rice

the fish pieces were long but very, very thin, i would prefer a slightly thicker piece that is shorter with less rice, none of the fish was particularly good, average at best and that's being kind, the salmon was the worst by far and the hamachi was the best if i had to choose

but anyways, after we were done, we had a fish taste in our mouths that we only got rid of with pumpkin ice cream from mitchell's, yay pumpkin is back!!!
