A dinner from Caravan ( now the Morrocan Star)

Rick Ellkins | Apr 9, 2004 08:49 PM

As noted earlier, Caravan has reopened/merged with the Morrocan Star. I happily ordered dinner for delivery a few nights ago and was relieved to find the same dishes from the original Caravan that I've been craving are available at this new incarnation.

Their Babaghanooj is a standout in a neighborhood with some pretty good versions. It has that smokiness that I love. We also had the lamb Tefayah, which was delicious, with good quality lamb and the Pastella, which is the best example of the dish I've ever had. Their chicken filling is quite wonderful. If I have any complaint, it would be that the filo crust is a bit dry, but that was sometimes a problem at the original Caravan, too.

There is a version of lamb Tajine that is not on the menu, but I sometimes ask them to make. It is their Sweet Vegetable Tajine with the addition of some of their good lamb. It is quite tasty! Ken, who is the owner of the original Caravan remembered me by that dish when I called this time!

So I am quite pleased to have Caravan back. Now that the weather is warming up, I'll soon be having their Shamender, which is a fresh beet salad. I really like it ( and this from a beet-hater!).
