One Dinner and One Brunch/Lunch

LazySusan | Oct 11, 200411:17 AM

I'll be in New Orleans for 8 days, starting on Saturday. My brother and his wife will be meeting me for the first two days of the trip, and want to celebrate my birthday (Sunday) with me. I made reservations at Bayona for Saturday evening, and Arnaud's for birthday brunch on Sunday.

My brother now says he wants to take me out for one nice meal, but doesn't want to make this a "big food thing", meaning he would prefer not to have two huge expensive meals in a row.

So now I'm trying to think of alternatives to offer him. Perhaps Bon Ton's on Saturday instead of Bayona since it might be more casual and less expensive? (I thought of Mandina's or Mandich's, and even Coop's. I've also thought of Dick and Jenny's and Jaque-Imo's, but I'm not sure how expensive they are.)

I don't want to go someplace mediocre or sacrifice character for price. That would seem a waste, especially for him, since he will not be in NOLA long.

I realize I sound vague and confused, but that's because he's thrown me for a bit of a loop. Ideally, I would like both places to be quintessential New Orleans - one inexpensive or moderate and one suitable for special occasions.

(Restaurants I've been to already include Peristyle, Brigstens, K-Paul, and Commander's Brunch).

Any advice??? Thanks as always!!
