Four of us went down to their new spot in City Market Saturday night. Tried to call for a reservation but were told they don't accept them. ?? I don't really understand the reasons behind accepting/not- maybe somebody can enlighten me.
Went anyway- we were a little concerned about parking but there's a new multilevel parking deck across the street. Very convenient- and it's free at night!
We were able to get seated right away in the main room. Very noisy- deafening, in fact. Almost impossible to carry on a conversation. Most of the noise came from a table of eight, but still.... They need to do something about this- hang tapestries, some sort of sound absorbing material up. The ceilings are high, wouldn't bother anything.
The couple with us both ordered one of the specials, fried Georgia quail w/cole slaw and homemade french fries. We wanted an appetizer of fried oysters, but they had sold out. If a clean plate is any indicator of how they liked their meal, they loved it, 'cause there were nothing but bones remaining. They both said it was delicious.
My wife had blackened NC catfish over shrimp etouffee w/fried green beans. She's always liked etouffee and said the combination of that and catfish was very good. I stuck with my favorite, crawfish etouffee served w/ rice. My selection was excellent, as it always was at their other location by Crabtree mall.
Brian was nice enough to stop by our table for a quick word- it's flattering to be remembered given the number of faces he must see every day.
The dessert menu was tempting, but we we had all had our fill, so we skipped dessert this time.
The total check with a reasonable tip (20+%) came to $125 or so- good value in our opinion. All in all, an enjoyable evening with great cajun food. We'll certainly be back.
