Dining solo

My daughter asked me, her newly retired father, if I wanted to see New York while she is there on a business trip at the end of March. On one of the days she will be working all day, so I am planning to spend time at the art museums and in the evening see a play on Broadway.

Do you have any suggestions where solo diners are welcomed and would feel comfortable for lunch in the art museum area (Met and Guggenhiem) and pre theater dinner in the 45th street area (the play is at the Music Box theater)?

Since I can no longer use an expense account and would like to stay retired, I am looking for what I would describe as moderately priced places that are in the $50 or less per person including a glass of wine.

Thanks for any suggestions from a Midwest visitor!
