Dining in on NYE - picnic supplies, etc

91010 | Dec 1, 201002:55 PM     3

Hi all, rather than another post about where to eat out for NYE, I thought I would ask about the best place to eat in. Well, not the best place to eat in, but the best place for supplies and some suggestions for the type of food that might be available.

We are staying in the 7th. Can someone recommend the best market around this area and, perhaps, some of the specialties that this market might be best known for? I haven't planned far enough ahead to think about what we might like to eat, but I would assume oysters, caviar, champagne, etc for a decadent night in - we will be in Paris, afterall!

Likewise, does anyone have suggestions as to where to view the fireworks at midnight? Although I don't particularly want to be at the base of the Tower with the traditional tourist bunch (I don't mean that to sound hypocritical as I am a tourist), but would love a slightly more "secluded" place that is very Parisian with a nice view of the Tower and fireworks. Any takers?

Also, is it permissible to have alcohol on the streets in Paris? For instance, a bottle of champagne and a couple of glasses?

Thanks for your help.
