If dining in Midtown, Go to Brasserie 8 1/2 for Heirloom Tomato Fest

I had lunch at 8 1/2 today and it is very good. I go there occasionally for business lunches and have both good and average food there.

They have a special menu "celebrating" heirloom tomatoes. I had the heirloom tomato salad - just red & yellow heirlooms, with a touch or parmesan, basil, some aoli-like drizzle, and a few fresh fava beans. The heirlooms were fantastic and the simple presentation allowed for full enjoyment of great tomato taste. For my entree I had grilled sea bass w/ scallions, some kind of wilted green and oven roasted heirlooms. Very fresh & flavorful. I would've liked a smaller portion of fish (nice portion) in exchange for more tomatoes. For dessert I had the warm chocolate crepe w/ raspberry ice cream which was good - it gave me my chocolate fix, but nothing spectacular.

So, if you must dine in Midtown - which I usually try to avoid - definitely go for the heirlooms at 8 1/2.
